How to choose a diesel generator

1. Power

   Size on prime power and on what runs at the same time, counting starting surges: motors and compressors draw three to six times their rating as they start. Leave 20–30% headroom. Each power band has its own page with every set in it.

2. Engine

   All five engines cover the whole range, so the choice is about parts, service and what your industry already runs, not the badge. Seer Power received factory service authorisations from Weichai and Yuchai in 2021; Cummins and Perkins are the names tenders ask for most.

3. Build

   An open set goes indoors, in a plant room. A canopied set stands outside and is quiet enough near homes. A container suits remote sites and high power, with its own fuel, ventilation and room to service it.

4. Automatic start

   With an ATS panel the set starts by itself when the grid drops and takes the load in seconds; without one, someone starts it by hand. For a hospital, a data centre or a lift, plan the ATS from the start.

5. Fuel

   Each datasheet gives fuel use at full load in litres per hour; multiply by the hours you expect to run to size the tank and the deliveries. At partial load the set burns less.

6. After the purchase

   Installation, maintenance by engine hours and at least once a year, and parts from our Tashkent warehouse. Need power for a while rather than for good? Cummins sets from 30 to 1000 kW are available for rent.
